Ecclesiastes 7:8

“The end of a matter is better than its beginning.”

“The End is Better Than the Beginning”

I have watched people with hang gliders soar like eagles. How do you get that kind of courage to jump off a mountain side and let the arms of the wind catch you? First steps and leaps of faith are a part of our lives. They may not be as drastic as jumping off a mountain into the wind, but they are just as challenging. It can be the first day of kindergarten for a child, a step toward reconciliation with someone that you have disputed with, the early morning trip to the hospital for surgery; and the list goes on. It may even be that first step that leads us from the church pew to the altar where one meets God.

Peter stepped out of a boat on a boisterous sea. Some walked away from their livelihood to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. Jesus Himself rose from agonizing prayer to walk toward Calvary’s cross. His words of determined faith were, “Let us be going.”

The steps that follow can be difficult, but we dare not turn back. There were a few times when I wished that I had not taken that first step of faith into pastoral ministry, but the voice that called me was the same voice that said, “Keep going, and don’t quit.”

For any of us the cost of faith can be high, nights long, tears real, and yet, WE KEEP ON because we know something else: “The end of this will be better than its beginning.” The path from Gethsemane to the cross was a difficult journey to a resurrection of joy. In Heaven we will never hear anyone complain about that leap, or first step, into the Kingdom of God.

Is it time for that step to be taken? When Jesus said, “Let us be going” it means we will not have to take it alone.

“If you’ll take one step toward the Savior, my friend, You’ll find His arms open wide; Receive Him, and all of your darkness will end, Within your heart He will abide.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
