The crow was desperately calling for help. He had gotten in trouble over his head. In an attempt to rob a bird’s nest he discovered the power of unity. The Robin sent out a cry of distress, and every bird in the area responded without hesitation. They zoomed in and out, pecking and clawing, chasing the enemy away from his destructive plan.
Jesus taught us that when we think about life we should consider the birds. Solomon often took us back to nature for Life Lessons. He spoke of the locusts who have no king, yet they advance together in ranks. Shouldn’t we who call Jesus “our King” be able to learn these things?
When a bird in the forest is attacked, every bird will wail until silence slowly returns. The cardinal doesn’t say to the bluebird, “You are not one of us, so we don’t care.” Even the bully catbird will stand along side the others against the one who comes to destroy.
I have seen it many times when a disaster happens. People working side by side without prejudice. All those things that divided them suddenly didn’t matter anymore. They were Samaritans in ditches with folks they normally had nothing to do with.
The Bible says that the wolf has come to kill, steal, and destroy the Lord’s sheep. We have the Good Shepherd who has come to save us. He also made it clear that he expects us to care about one another. We are not just “Birds of a Feather” who flock together; We are the Family of God.
“We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord;
And we pray that all unity will one day be restored.
And they’ll know we are Christians by our love.”
