The Master of Restoration

“In that day I will restore David’s fallen shelter– I will repair its broken walls and restore its ruins– and will rebuild it as it used to be.”

“Amos 9:11”

I knew a couple who bought an older house that they planned to live in. The rooms were simple and in need of a few repairs. When some sheetrock had to be removed they discovered the beautiful architecture that someone had covered. It was costly work, but soon the lost beauty that had been there all along was brought back to its glory.

Could that be the story of some of our lives? The glory that once was there has been covered over with daily cares, or a lifestyle that we thought would be more enjoyable. It seemed right at first, but soon the glory of life was lost behind walls of disappointment.

Have you ever thought, “If I could just have_______, or do________, I would be happy? Many who have sought that elusive dream can tell you that such happiness is only temporary. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard people mourn the loss of happiness and the glory they once had before they covered it over with false promises of fun and pleasure.

There is hope for the repentant heart. The Master Carpenter is in the restoration business. David prayed that the Lord would restore the joy of salvation. The psalmist said that the Lord restored his soul.

Salvation is totally the work of Christ; we do nothing to earn it. Restoration is always hard and costly work. If we are willing to work with the Master Carpenter our lives can be restored to their original glory. God made us beautiful in His own image, and we can have it back again.

The hymn says, “Something beautiful, something good. All my confusion He understood. All I had to offer Him was brokenness and strife, but He made something beautiful of my life”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
