Acts 21:14

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, August 29, 2019

“… we gave up and said, The Lord’s will be done.”

Letting go has always been a problem for me. The expression, “Let Go and Let God” is easier said than done for many of us. We once called it surrendering to God; but surrender sounds like defeat. I am defeated; I’m a sinner who can’t save myself and I’m troubled with problems that are too hard for me to fix.

Have you ever felt like you were barely hanging on over some deep gorge, and there was no one to catch you if you let go? That may be the very best place to be if it finally brings us to trust God; when we have unsuccessfully tried everything else, we let go of our grip and find that the hand of God is closer than we thought.

A very effective trick of the devil is to convince people that the gorge is too deep, that we have traveled too far down the road of sin, and that the invisible hand of God isn’t really there; and even if it is, it isn’t for people like us.

The Psalmist wrote, “Many say about me, ‘there is no help for him in God.” He knew better, “I cried unto the Lord and He answered me from His holy mountain.” Faith is deciding to be among the ones who release the grip on whatever it is we are holding to, and knowing we are saved, and safe, in the nail scared hands of Jesus. “You, O Lord, are a shield around me, my Glory, and the One who lifts up my head.”

“All to Jesus I surrender
All to Him I freely give
I will ever love and trust Him
In His presence daily live…

I surrender all
I surrender all
All to Thee my blessed Savior
I surrender all.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
