Revelation 14:2-3

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, November 3, 2020

“And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. And they sang a new song before the throne…”

Ah, the wonder of God’s Word. Imagine the sound of rushing water. It is loud and powerful. Now, add to it the rumbling of thunder. How in the world does one hear the harpist playing their harps?

It is a wonderful thought: a song so powerful, and yet so pleasant and soothing to the soul. “They sang a new song before the throne.” They are the victorious people of God and no one could learn the song but them. It is the song of the redeemed; soothing enough to caress a hurting soul; and yet powerful enough to pull a sinner out of the hands of the devil.

We learn the song in this life, and we sing it in the next one because the final note is not added until we are safely before the throne of God.

It is interesting that the beauty of the singing is not mentioned. In Revelation it is the message of the song that matters most; and it is always about the Lamb, our Redeemer.

Sometimes my mind returns to a song that has deep meaning in my soul. I can only imagine the trembling joyful new members of Heaven’s innumerable choir as they sing:

“Redeemed, redeemed,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed, redeemed,
His child and forever I am.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
