There’s a Message in Tears

“Don’t cry Mommy. Mommy what’s wrong?” He was a little boy, and his Mother didn’t look much older than him. I didn’t know their story; I couldn’t even see her face. She was in line to receive some money that was being wired to her. I couldn’t intrude, but I wished that … I just wished that it could be different for them, and so many other people.

A day will come when God shall wipe away all tears. That is something we can’t seem to accomplish on this earth. Tears are a gift from God, and a language of their own. Washington Irvin wrote, “There is sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love.”

The Bible teaches us that tears are a prelude to endless joy. “Weeping last only through the night, but joy will come in the morning.”

I can think of only two occasions in which it is recorded that our Lord cried: Jesus wept when He saw the grief that was in the hearts of His friends at the death of Lazarus. He also wept for the people that wouldn’t let Him help them. We cause tears in the eyes of God when we refuse His Love and care.

Many cry the tears of a long night; but they will give way to the dawning of the New Day as the Bright and Morning Star (Jesus) appears. The Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from every face; and on that day, and in that land, no one will ever have to hear a child say, “Don’t cry Mommy.”
