Water of Life - Opened Wells and Rebuilt Altars

Rev. Ray and Pat Amos

Advent Hope is that we might drink freely of the Water of Life.

“Water of Life – Opened Wells and Rebuilt Altars”

“Isaac reopened the wells that had been dug in the time of his father Abraham, which the Philistines had stopped up after Abraham died…” Genesis 26:18

Wherever Abraham traveled with his family the first order of business was to build an altar and dig a well. Those are two essentials for living.

Isaac came along in his father’s footsteps. He reopened his father’s wells because the enemy had closed them, and he also rebuilt altars because people need the Lord.

As I write this, I realize that there is no mention of water in the Nativity story of Jesus. Yet, Advent Hope is that we might drink freely of the Water of Life. The infant in the manger was a sleeping spring that was soon to be a “well of water springing up to everlasting life.”

A man said, “I can’t seem to pray right now, and I want to get my relationship with the Lord back.”

There is a thirst that nothing can satisfy except water from the Fountain of Christ. We need to take a fresh look at the old wells that once supplied our lives with streams even in the desert. We should reopen them.

“Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness for they Shall be satisfied.”

“How sweet the living water from the hills of God,
It makes me glad and happy all the way;
Now glory, grace and blessing mark the path I’ve trod,
I’m shouting Hallelujah every day.

Drinking at the springs of living water,
Happy now am I, my soul they satisfy;
Drinking at the springs of living water,
O wonderful and bountiful supply.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
