Job 11:16

DEVOTION FOR TODAY, November 5, 2020

“You will surely forget your trouble, recalling it only as waters gone by.”

Perhaps Job found those words hard to believe. Whenever he thought that things could not get any worse; they did. Someone has said that when you are at the end of your rope, you should tie a knot and hold on. The lesson of Job is simple, often difficult, but noticeably clear: do not give up on trusting God. Remember that “GOD blessed Job’s later life even more than his earlier life” (Job 42:12).

There are few people who are without troubles. Much like Covid-19, trouble, heartache, and pain could care less about our social status. We can be thankful for what we have, and not need to covet the good life that we think others possess. The lesson of Gehazi (2 Kings 5:16-27) is that if you want what the wealthy have, you had better be prepared to receive their problems also.

The song says, “I’m so glad that troubles don’t last always.” Child of God; whatever you may be going through, there are brighter days ahead. The Psalmist said that even when the Lord was angry it was only for a moment; and that His favor lasts a lifetime (see Psalm 30:5). Remember that weeping may remain all night, but joy comes in the morning; and the morning always comes.

How I love this song: “Hold on my child joy comes in the morning; weeping only last for the night. Hold on my child Joy comes in the morning; the darkest hour means dawn is just in sight.”

We have an expression: “That’s water under the bridge.” That means that a trouble or a mistake has already happened and is now forgotten or no longer important. Troubles have dissipated in the celestial atmosphere of the country to where we are going. When we get there, we will not even ask the why of our life on earth because we will delight in unspeakable Love.

No one worries about water that has gone by when resting beside healing waters that flows by the throne of God.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
