Isaiah 40:31

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint”

Who likes a waiting room? It is one of those uncomfortable, but necessary places in life. Discomfort is compounded when we are desperate for immediate help. If the clock has passed the time of appointment, then waiting can turn into impatience. Some people have walked out of a needed appointment just a minute too soon.

How many of us are waiting on the Lord for a much needed meeting? “We have prayed; reread the promises in the Bible; and at the slightest movement we look up and hope that God will see us now. Jesus once told the disciples, “My time is not yet, but your time is always.”

I checked the Johnson City Eagle Cam this morning. The noble and faithful bird is on her nest waiting. She has no phone to text, no radio, no movies or magazines; one would wonder how she can do that. Let’s face it; we humans are losing the skill of waiting.

When the weather is cold, the rain is pouring, the snow is falling; I look and see a soaked, or snow covered bird that is waiting. She doesn’t abandon her eggs, or her little ones when they come; she waits on a day when they will mount up on eagles wings; when she hears a whisper in the wind as she watches young strong wings take to their own pathless flight through the boundless sky, “Well done good and faithful servant.”

We once sang, “Teach me Lord to wait down on my knees, till in your own good time you’ll answer my pleas. Teach me not to rely on what others do, but to wait in prayer for an answer from you…”

My Lord, Some of us are waiting for you today. We long to hear that the Great Physician will see us now; or that what we’ve lost, you have found. Others wait on showers of blessing to end their drought; and some just wait to board their flight home. Give us patience as we wait, lest we turn away from your gate. Our timeless God is never late.
