Why Should He Love Us So
“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
2 Corinthians 5:21
The first question recorded that God asked was, “Where are you?” The answer is important to Him; and should be to us. The question itself reveals that someone is lost. His second question was, “Who told you…?” There will always be that person who will gladly point out our sin; and the accuser isn’t God.
Jesus said, “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him” (John 3:17).
Anyone of us can feel the guilt and shame of our sins. The accuser roams back and forth on the earth pointing out our failure. Discouragement and condemnation are powerful weapons in his hands. As a Christian we have no business giving him any assistance.
It is Good Friday. Jesus saw something good in each one of us, something good enough to redeem; so He took the shame and pain of our cross. “Love sent my Savior to die in my stead; Why should He love me so? Meekly to Calvary’s cross He was led; Why should He love me so? Why should my Savior to Calvary go? Why should He love me so?”
Jesus did not come to tell us that we are sinners; we have already been told that. He came to save us from our sin. Now, that’s Good News on a Good Friday!
