Romans 11:3
DEVOTION FOR TODAY, November 13, 2020
“Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!”
During this pandemic, the church has faced a challenge. How do we balance faith and science? While we depend on science to guide us as safely as possible, we also trust the rule of our life to God.
We look back on the science of past years and we may laugh at some of it; but then it would have been argued to be the best knowledge of the day. We have no doubt that the next generation will do the same towards this one; yet each one improves and becomes a vital part of our health and wellbeing.
Science tells us to wear a mask and to social distance. We do so because it is proven to be a factor in stopping the spread of the virus.
I am thankful that many scientists believe in God and pray. They are guided by the same hands and mind that formed the world. These are the ones who get help from the unlimited storehouse of God. Many of them are faithful believers in God.
The Lord has always had a way to humble any people who begin to believe that they do not need him. As he did in the book of Job all he needs to do is ask, “Where were you when I laid the foundations of the earth? Tell Me, if you have understanding. Who fixed its measurements? Surely you know! Or who stretched a measuring line across it?” (Job 38:4-5)
At the end of the day we are thankful for all who make our life so much better and safer; but to only one we pray: “Lord, you have been our dwelling place in all generations. Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”
