“Wit’s End”

There is a place that most experienced travelers on the road of life have been. You will not find it on a map, and you certainly don’t need a GPS to guide you to it. For some it is a long slow journey; and others just plunge into it. The place is called “Wit’s end.”

“Why is life given to a person whose way is hidden, whom God has hedged in?” (Job 3:23). The Moffitt Transition says, “Why does God give life to a person at his/her wits’ end?”

It’s hard to be where there is nowhere else to turn. Even King David was there: “There is no help for him in the Lord, they say.” (Psalm 3:2)

Job, David, and a host of others all found the same thing; that at the wits’ end of an impossible situation, God is there. He is the way where there is no way, hope of the hopeless and help for the helpless.

“Why is life given to a person who is at wits’ end?” Our Lord knows that wits’ end doesn’t have to be where life stops. There is no “Dead End” on the Highway of the Lord. The hymn of promise says it best:

“In our end is our beginning;
in our time, infinity;
In our doubt there is believing;
in our life, eternity,
In our death, a resurrection;
at the last, a victory,
Unrevealed until its season,
something God alone can see.”

So you have found the place called “Wits’ end.” Jesus has been waiting on you there; now have a little talk with him. He can revive the joy of the journey and put the glory back into your steps. When there is nothing left that we know to do; then do nothing but fall into His arms and trust the Love of God.

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray

Hymn of Promise

In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree;
In co-coons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free!
In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody;
there’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me.
From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity;
In our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity.
In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.
