Numbers 2:31
“They shall go hindmost with their standards.”
“Bringing up the rear” was a position assigned to the tribe of Dan. Society has changed and I cannot imagine the whining and fussing that would happen today should a group of us be told that we are to be the cow’s tail wherever we travel.
I have known people who put their lives on hold so someone else could get ahead with their life. These kind folks usually receive no recognition, but then, it is not their nature to want it. The one who sees in secret knows it, and his pleasure is enough reward.
How many of us enjoy a life that was supported and even propelled by someone else’s sacrifice?
Hindmost may not have the glamour of being up front. In a parade the one who walks behind the horses with a shovel may not have people waving at them, but they are no less important than the ones who ride and wave from the floats up front. Christians hold various positions in the kingdom and our Lord has a special word for the faithful souls who are please to walk with the tribe of Dan: “The last shall be first.”
There are a group of people in the Gospels who played parts so great, so important, that their names were never mentioned. They are a part of the cast that rolls on the screen while we exit the movie, no one reads their name but it sure would not have happened without them.
Well, I am really rambling this morning, but God Bless the people who work behind the scenes, stand in the shadows, and pray for others to do great things in this world. These are the ones who do not bury their talents, they invest them in the lives of those who march ahead. They walk behind and gather the broken and fallen ones in arms of love, the wipe tears from those who didn’t make it like they thought they would. They even help clean up someone else’s mess.
One such person humbly carried a cross when he could have declared in thundering glory, “I Am God.” He humbled himself to become the least that we might be saved and be raised with him in glory.
“To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus!
My desire – to be like Him!
All thru life’s journey from earth to glory,
My desire – to be like Him.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
