“A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” Proverbs 25:11

As someone who works with words every day, this Proverb is one of my favorite verses in the Bible. I am responsible to arrange words so that they will always say one word: JESUS, The WORD THAT BECAME FLESH, and DWELLS WITH US.
Many of the calls that I receive, come in the middle of someone’s storm; a sudden death, a family crises, a divorce, depression and many other situations. Most are not looking for the preacher to fix what is broken, but for a WORD that will keep hope alive, get them through, and help them not to forget that God cares.

I pray daily that by the grace of God, I can be what Christ told His disciples to be: “Wise as a serpent, and harmless as a dove.” Even with that there is a fear of fulfilling the scripture, “Not knowing what to say, he spoke.”
All of us can spend a lifetime dissecting and studying life. Job’s friends sat in silence with him as he grieved; then got in trouble when they opened their mouth. The simplest question from God can silence any person who thinks that he/she has all the answers.

Jesus said that our heart will be where our treasure is. It has also been my experience that where our treasure is, our tongue will be attached. Oh, we will talk about it, you can be sure. That is another reason to lay up our treasures in heaven; so that we can speak of Heavenly things.

As a child I memorized Matthew 12:36. “But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the Day of Judgment for every empty word they have spoken.” My physician friend that I mentioned yesterday, made another cross stitch that sits on my desk. It says, “Dear Lord, Help me watch my words. Keep them clean and soft and sweet. Because, my Lord, I never know which ones I’ll have to eat.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
