The Kingdom of God
“The Kingdom of God is never going to travel the same direction as the kingdoms of this world.”
“Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor mine eyes lofty: neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me. Surely, I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother: my soul is even as a weaned child.” Psalm 131:1-2
Advent Hope is not attainable to the proud and haughty. The hopes and fears of all the years are met in a humble stable where a baby sleeps. We need not go to the high places to find God; just to our knees.
The Kingdom of God is never going to travel the same direction as the kingdoms of this world. That leaves us with an amazingly simple choice: Stop kicking our feet against the ways of God, turn our life around and go with Jesus.
No one is ever too humble to serve the Lord, but we can surely be too important to love Him. “Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up!” It is not the “Who’s Who” who inherits the earth, but the meek.
Humility does not have a proud heart. It never demands the attention of admiration when it walks in a room; and it never looks down on another person; “Nor are my eyes lofty.”
Humility does not demand the high places, neither does it build its own towers, but waits on the Lord to lift him/her in His own way, and in His own time. The first will boast, “Look what I have done;” the second, “See what the Lord is doing.”
Humility relates to a most valuable resource that we cannot find in the “Rat Race.” That precious resource is contentment and rest. “I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother.”
“Away in a manger,
No crib for a bed,
The little Lord Jesus
Laid down His sweet head
Be near me, Lord Jesus,
I ask You to stay
Close by me forever
And love me I pray.”
Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
