Just sharing a recap of the first week of ‘sudden change’ as far as our work goes at Shades of Grace. Our Sunday online worship for this week has registered 3,000 views and this week’s Wednesday evening service has registered 900 views. These numbers reflect a little larger online viewing congregation than our typical weeks.

The building is not open as a day center now which brings up concerns for the most vulnerable, ie, the handicapped and elderly homeless. Our faithful staff of pastors and volunteers are daily on the job meeting needs of those who knock constantly on our doors. Along with partnerships of faithful friends, we have served an average of 85 hot meals daily, with a larger crowd on Sunday. Our meals are being served outside in ‘to go‘ boxes and paper bags.

We’ve continued to assist insurance copays, some electric deposits, rent and utilities, to name some. We’ve assisted at least one homeless person get off the streets into permanent housing. We’ve given clothes and blankets daily.

There has been a newspaper interview, and two tv interviews, which helps generate an awareness of the ministry. Our mayor visited the office this week, and lots of healthy conversations about collaborative efforts involving homelessness. I completed writing 3 devotionals which the Times News editor asked me to submit concerning this pandemic and faith. We’ve worked on some deep cleaning of our facility. We’re keeping the 10 person rule and washing hands frequently. Lots of prayers are offered daily.

I’ve officiated 4 funerals in these past 6 days. ( two were this afternoon.) Again, we’re observing the social distancing rule. I stopped to visit Belle Byrd on my way home tonight, and she donated two boxes of ink pens in memory of Pastor Billy, who passed in December. He always brought us boxes of pens and that was one of his projects. He is missed so much, and this touched my heart.

Finally, I walked 8 miles today. I’m trying to stay healthy and active to continue looking after the least of these. Thank you all my friends. We are all so blessed. It is well!
