“Whose son are you, young man?”

“Whose boy are you?” David had just defeated Goliath; and King Saul wanted to know who he was.

“Whose boy are you?” If someone had asked me that question when I was growing up, it probably was trouble. Identity is important to most people. There was a time when children were known by whom their parents were and where they lived. In our transient society that isn’t necessarily the case anymore.

When Jesus was baptized, God said, “This is my Son.” The very first temptation that Jesus faced was the temptation to doubt, his identity. “If you are God’s Son, then…” This temptation came twice. “IF” CAN BE A POWERFUL LITTLE WORD. Jesus taught us the importance of having faith that is stronger than any “if” that the devil throws at us.

It is also important that we know who we are, and whose we are. We can say, “I am a child of God.” We are sons and daughters of Most High God with whom all things are possible. But, that doesn’t come without challenges. There are times that we are tempted to doubt that wonderful truth.

We can face life’s battles when our identity is settled in our heart. David defeated Goliath by faith in his Heavenly Father. Jesus defeated Satan, and even death, by the absolute knowledge that He was the Son of God. Child of God, whatever you are going through; always remember who you are.

“Oh yes, oh yes, I’m a child of the King
His royal blood now flows in my veins
And I who was wretched and poor now can sing
Praise God Praise God I’m a child of the King.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
