When People Lie About Us
When People Lie About Us
David said, “Be not silent, O God of my praise! For wicked and deceitful mouths are opened against me, speaking against me with lying tongues. They encircle me with words of hate, and attack me without cause. In return for my love they accuse me, but I give myself to prayer. So they reward me evil for good, and hatred for my love” (Psalms 109:1-5).
Instead of trading insults with his enemies, David “gave himself to prayer.” We are reminded of the admonition given by the Lord himself: “But I say to you who hear, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you” (Luke 6:27-28, ESV).
When people lie about us, the natural thing is to tell something on them, justifying ourselves that what we tell is the truth. Instead, we should talk to God about them, even asking him to bless them. It is not the natural thing; it is not the easy thing; it is the right thing!
