Hebrews 11:1
“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
“I’ve never traveled far around the world. I’ve never seen the many thrills and sites unfurled. But I have taken the journey of journeys for me. Up Calvary’s Mountain there my Savior to see.”
My first Air Force temporary duty assignment was to Fairbanks, Alaska. I have found no words to describe the enchanted feeling of stepping off the plane and realizing where I was. For a young man who had never ventured too far from his hometown it was something that I never imagined possible; but I was there. Many of you travel often and far and might not get so excited about such a trip. That young man felt as though he had flown into the pages of a storybook.
Two of the greatest wonders of eternity are only reachable by faith: Calvary and Heaven. Every believer can rejoice that we have been to Calvary. By faith we have seen the Lord, and we have personally experienced the saving grace of God.
I had no reason to believe that Fairbanks Alaska really existed. All I might have known about it came from books, and the witness of people. By faith I believed that they were true. When I was told that I was going there, I did not doubt. How much more this is true about Heaven. By faith we believe the Book of Books that tells us all about it, and the witness of the saints who sing: “It’s real, it’s real; Oh, I know it’s real; praise God, the doubts are settled, for I know, I know it’s real!”
Can you imagine that glorious day when there is a sudden realization that we are there at last? “But just think of stepping on shore-And finding it Heaven! Of touching a hand-And finding it God’s! Of breathing new air-And finding it celestial! Of waking up in glory-And finding it home!”
