How Will We Know the Difference Between Tares and Wheat?

“While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Genesis 8:22

The flowers are looking tired, and their brilliant glory has faded like a sun worn dashboard in an old car. Our Lord said that the grass withers and flowers fade; but aren’t you glad that the Word of the Lord endures forever?

Gardens and flowers are showing the battle scars of summer with the bug bites, wet and dry spells, and the taunting weeds that seem to get along well regardless of the weather. But these plants have something the weeds do not: they have fruit to offer as a gift from God, and back to God.

It is already time to get out the garden tools and begin to cut and pull, dig and rake. Consider the parable of the “Tares and Wheat” (Matthew 13:24-30). Our God is patient with our lives, and loves us enough to let us grow along with the weeds so we will be fruitful. “Let them grow together until harvest.” GOD’S PATIENCE COMES TO AN END ONLY WHEN LOVE IS FULFILLED.

“How will we know the difference between tares and wheat?” “You will know,” says the Master to the reapers. “The tares will stand tall, proud and empty. The wheat will humbly bow down with the weight of its fruit.”

“Sowing in the sunshine, sowing in the shadows,
Fearing neither clouds nor winter’s chilling breeze;
By and by the harvest, and the labor ended,
We shall come rejoicing, bringing in the sheaves.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray
