“Let Your Light Shine for Those Who on the Side of the Road”

Years ago (before cell phones) our family spent part of a night on the side of a mountain road in a car that was out of gasoline. If I had taken the time to stop at a service station a few miles back we would not have been in that situation. But, at that moment it did not matter why it happened; it was still dark and lonely on the side of the road.

There was a house just over the hill from us, but the sound of large barking dogs kept us in the car. I do not know who lived there but they kept their light on all through the night. Letting their light shine was a comfort to us.

There are many people who are spiritually and emotionally on the side of the road in the darkness of life. As Christians it is not our role to judge how and why they got there. It really doesn’t matter at that point. The darkness gets no brighter, and the loneliness doesn’t end because a person is judged.

We can do a great service by just living a life where we let our light shine. A friendly word, smile, helping hand, or some other act of Christian kindness can make all the difference for a troubled soul by the side of the road. You never know how you might encourage and give hope to someone who is going through tough times. They may not even know your name but your Christian spirit can be a light in their darkness.

Sometime in the early hours of the morning headlights appeared behind our car. An angel unaware who was wearing coal miner’s clothes stopped and put gas in our car. Then with a “God bless you,” he was on his way, and we were too.

Jesus said that “you are the light of the world, so let your light shine before others that they may see your good works and give glory to your Heavenly Father.” Matthew 5:16. The world will get no darker than we let it get. The weakest light is stronger than the darkest dark.

“This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine Every day, every day, I’m going to let my little light shine.”

Grace and Peace, Rev Ray

This Little Light of Mine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine
Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine
Everywhere I go, I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

We will sing in peace
We will sing in harmony
We will sing in peace
We will sing in harmony
We will sing in peace
And we will sing in harmony

This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.

Let it shine around the world, We’re going to let it shine.
Let it shine around the world, We’re going to let it shine
Let it shine around the world, We’re going to let it shine
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine.
We’ll all shine, we’ll all shine, we’ll all shine!
So let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
